Nina S. Heard

Nina S. Heard is a communications expert with more than 23 years of experience working in a variety of roles at General Motors Company (GM). She currently serves at the Tonawanda Engine Plant(a facility that employ over 1200 employees) in Buffalo, New York as a Global Supply Chain Planner she works with a team to deploy supply chain capability by scheduling build and ship plans daily for engine production - delivering to seven GM assembly plants. Nina and her team work to manage critical supplier issues, to achieve budgets in logistics, inventory and containers, and to support supplier, manufacturing footprints and global engine programs.

Most recently, Nina served as the Community Relations Manager for Tonawanda Engine Plant - a role created to oversee the community relations strategy in Buffalo and the surrounding communities. In this role, Nina represented Tonawanda Engine Plant and General Motors Company by helping the company gain entry and access to a vast network of diverse community organizations and stakeholders. She oversaw and implemented successful partnerships on community programs, including but not limited to: Success Looks Like Me Program with the Community Foundation of Greater Buffalo, the Willie Hutch Jones Educational & Sports Program Science Fair and STEAM programs, the Miss Borinquen Leadership Program with the Puerto Rican & Hispanic Day Parade, Inc. of WNY, the STEAM Conference and the Girls Coding Camp with the STEMHub of WNY, the Each One – Reach One event with the National Association of Women Business Owners, the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk with the American Cancer Society, and the annual Juneteenth Parade. Nina currently serves as a Board Member for multiple non-profit organizations in the Buffalo area, including the Northland Workforce Training Center, the Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda Chamber of Commerce, the American Cancer Society, the Boys and Girls Club of the Northtowns, and Every Person Influences Children. She also serves as a member of the United Way of Erie County Women’s United Advisory Board, as well as an executive board member of the GM WOMEN and the GM Professional Managers employee affinity groups. Nina is a founding Board of Directors member for the Evon Price Memorial Foundation located in Flint, Michigan.

Prior to the community relations role, Nina served as a GM Diversity Communications Manager in Detroit, Michigan where she led internal and external communication efforts and developed a large network of media contacts for GM among multicultural news and lifestyle outlets. One of her most proudest moments working with GM was in working with the team that headed the PR efforts for the GM Foundation’s donation to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in Washington, D.C. As a Diversity Communications Manager Nina grew her company’s relationship with organizations and events such as the Trumpet Awards, the Stellar Awards, Black Girls Rock!, and the American Black Film Festival.

Nina’s journey with GM began working as Production Supervisor at Lake Orion Assembly Plant. (Orion, MI), soon after earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University in 1995. From the Plant, Nina moved into a communications role as a Regional Plant Communications Manager with GM Service Parts Operations in Grand Blanc, Michigan where she was responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies for six facilities across the country. In 2000, Nina received a Master’s Degree in Marketing and Leadership Studies. She has also taught as an Adjunct Professor at Davenport University in Michigan.

Nina is a recipient and nominee of numerous professional and community awards, including the Girl Scouts ‘Women of Distinction’ Award, Michigan Chronicle ‘Women of Excellence’ Award, the ‘ATHENA Leadership’ Award, and the ‘ATHENA Young Professional’ Award. She is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Nina represents excellence in all that she does, especially in reaching out to underserved communities on behalf of GM, as well as in her personal life. She is motivated by her parents (Darcell and the late Evon Price) and her husband, Terrance Heard. Making them proud has always been one of her number one goals in life. Nina truly believes that to whom much is given, much is required and is dedicated to inspiring all to achieve their greatest dreams.
