Aisha Thomas

Aisha Thomas

Aisha Thomas is a 14 year military member currently serving in the United States Air Force. She is now on a mission to inspire young girls, parents/guardians and schools on how the youth can effectively manage the stressors and transitions of teenage years. Aisha’s troubled past makes her the best advocate on these matters. She migrated to the United States and was a victim of bullying. This led to her failing in school, being suspended and she attempted suicide at 14 years old. As she worked through her pain and rebuilt her confidence, she went from a failing student to an honor roll student. As she transitioned to college, she later joined the United States Air Force (USAF) and is proudly serving as a Master Sergeant, who advises and supports USAF members through their career. She also raises awareness within her community and the Department of Defense (DOD) for various causes to include anti-bullying, suicide prevention, domestic violence and sexual assault. Aisha is a mother of two children who pushes her to keep going. Her goal is to be the example of how you can overcome trauma and become successful mentally, physically, spiritually and within your academic or career goals.

Speaking engagements for Girls World Expo:
Becoming a Trendsetter
Some of top issues facing young girls are self esteem, depression and bullying. The purpose of this seminar is to teach young girls to embrace their differences. At times, what individuals consider "weird" or different comes from the mindset that if it doesn't look like something you are familiar with, it should not be that way. By teaching that being different is the new cool, that being a leader should be the goal vice being a follower and one size doesn't fit all, you will see a decrease in these major stressors facing young girls.

Becoming a Trendsetter
If you were to look up the definition of "trendy" it's defined as very fashionable or up to date in style or influence. The truth is that many are influenced by trends. From entertainment to fashion, culture is moved by what everyone is talking about or doing. The problem is, this has created a followership type of mindset where some are moved only by what is popular instead of who you are. Our young girls are influenced by social media that creates a false sense of who they "should" be instead of the belief that they are good enough. Becoming a Trendsetter aims to plant a the seed of confidence that everyone is capable of setting and creating their own trends. Embracing who you are and what you are capable of, will dimish the idea that we must be like everyone else because who we are is more than enough.
