The mission of Girls World Expo is to create an empowering community of peers and leaders to embolden girls to start building a foundation of self-reliance, to seek out their own best futures and motivate them to take charge of their lives today.

The Washington Examiner is proud to host the Girls World Expo in the nation’s capital. We believe that community leadership enables girls to explore, imagine, and dream big about what their futures could be. Your participation will enrich the lives of young girls in the Washington DC metro through a diverse array of cultural opportunities, community outreach programs and leadership development made possible by your support.

Distributed Sunday – Friday, The Washington Examiner is read by more than 1 million people in print and online each week. The Washington Examiner provides readers with comprehensive local, national and world news. We invite nominations of girls 12-18 years old who through their actions, activities, leadership, and positive influence on others have proved themselves exceptional members of the community. Nominations may be submitted by any member of the community, including parents, teachers, counselors, mentors, nonprofit organizations leaders and others.

Girls of Merit show through a consistent pattern of actions and deeds that they:

• Care about their family, their friends, and their community
• Give of themselves in order to better the lives of others
• Have care and compassion for others
• Are strongly committed to excellence in all areas of their lives

if you would like to nominate a young woman as a Girl of Merit, please submit an e-mail message of 250-750 words telling us::

• Who you are nominating (name, address, phone, e-mail)
• Why you feel this person is a Girl of Merit, citing specific actions and achievements you feel distinguish her
• Your name, address, phone, and e-mail
